In this pedestrian accident the victim was a young woman who
was trying to cross an intersection at a crosswalk. The young
woman was a college student. She was set to graduate in just
one more semester. She had a job offer and was set to start
working after graduating. The accident took place just after
six in the evening.
The driver involved in the accident was a male who, because he
was distracted as he approached and entered the intersection
by looking at two women who were attempting to cross the street,
The driver did not stop prior to entering the crosswalk.
The force with which the vehicle struck the victim was so great
that she was thrown over the windshield and into the path of
oncoming traffic. She was then run over by a pickup truck that
was going in the opposite direction at between twenty and
twenty-five miles per hour.
The driver of the pickup truck did not stop even though the
young woman was already in the crosswalk, saw the woman go over
the hood of the car, and lost sight of her. The pickup ended
up running over the woman. The young woman did not survive the
accident. According to the law firm that represented the young
woman's family, the resulting lawsuit settled for slightly
above $3 Million.
